AFRICA
General Geological Setting
"Africa, the land whose forbidding jungles and exotic wildlife sparked the wonder of outsiders for centuries, has one final mystery to reveal–and it's a whopper. Contradicting what scientists once thought they knew about the way landmasses and mountains form, the continent is being ripped apart.
It won't happen in a single cataclysmic event, but as surely as the snows fall on Kilimanjaro, future generations will look upon globes that show today's inland cities of Addis Ababa and Kampala as ports on a branch of the Indian Ocean. All of Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya and Tanzania, and parts of Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Malawi and Mozambique will form a new island-continent of their own. Simply put, Africa is splitting in two".
"In East Africa, spreading processes have already torn Saudi Arabia away from the rest of the African continent, forming the Red Sea. The actively splitting African Plate and the Arabian Plate meet in what geologists call a triple junction, where the Red Sea meets the Gulf of Aden. A new spreading center may be developing under Africa along the East African Rift Zone. When the continental crust stretches beyond its limits, tension cracks begin to appear on the Earth's surface. Magma rises and squeezes through the widening cracks, sometimes to erupt and form volcanoes.
The rising magma, whether or not it erupts, puts more pressure on the crust to produce additional fractures and, ultimately, the rift zone.
East Africa may be the site of the Earth's next major ocean. Plate interactions in the region provide scientists an opportunity to study first hand how the Atlantic may have begun to form about 200 million years ago. Geologists believe that, if spreading continues, the three plates that meet at the edge of the present-day African continent will separate completely, allowing the Indian Ocean to flood the area and making the easternmost corner of Africa (the Horn of Africa) a large island" (USGS).

Felt in Swaziland and at Lobatse, Botswana and Lusaka, Zambia".
--------------------------------
Tectonic Summary
"The earthquake occurred near the southern end of the East African rift system. The East African rift system is a diffuse zone of crustal extension that passes through eastern Africa from Djibouti and Eritrea on the north to Malawi and Mozambique on the south and that constitutes the boundary between the Africa plate on the west and the Somalia plate on the east. At the earthquake's latitude, the Africa and Somalia plates are spreading apart at a rate of several millimeters per year. The largest earthquake to have occurred in the rift system since 1900 had a magnitude of about 7.6. Most earthquakes within the East African rift system occur as the result of either normal faulting or strike-slip faulting" (USGS).

The "Plate Tectonics" geological paradigm is very well represented by this event: it is a stage of the Birth of a new Ocean. Just a very regular, slow, gradual process. However, these stages have an "incisive", "sudden" character, just as an earthquake.
This fact may be a direct and summarized comparison between two paradigms: the geological paradigm and the orbital paradigm as described by Juan Revilla:
>>>The orbital characteristics are essentially of 3 types:
>a-) those that describe the position the object occupies in the solar system, expressed in terms of distance from the Sun and the speed or frequency with which it moves (the semi-major axis and distance range, transformed into velocity by means of Kepler's third law). Distant, slow-moving trajectories are like the low frequency sounds in music...
>b-) those that describe the shape of the orbit (a combination of eccentricity and semi-major axis), which determines the type of gesture, the "curve" the orbit describes in space, the motion of the object from aphelion to perihelion, the changes and contrast in velocity, the perihelion "visitations" and the aphelion "stand-stills", the coming and the "going away".
>c-) those that describe the orientation or "attitude", the "perspective" of the orbit, its capacity to "dive", to "hover", to "plunge" or in general its vertical orientation in space, how much it can get away from horizontality, expressed in the orbital inclination and the argument of latitude of the perihelion. The orbital inclination is one of the least studied orbital characteristics so far.
>In the case of the centaurs, the combination of a-) and b-) results in one of their main characteristics: their orbital crossing or interception, of which we have had in astrology for decades the example of Pluto crossing the orbit of Neptune. Pluto also made us aware of the possible meaning of orbital inclination, and is in fact the model and the fore-bearer of all centaurs, which are considered to have physically originated in the same region of space as Pluto.<<
With this perspective, and summarizing a lot, 2002 AW197 seems to be in tune with both orbital and geological paradigms:
a) Far distance from the Sun = Large-scale geological processes;
b) Round, slow moving orbit = regular, gradual, slow geological processes;
c) Relatively high orbital inclination = "incisive", "faulting" processes.
